Prospective Students

Prospective Students

The Admissions Council of LASA is managed by Fuqua students. Our goals are to help upcoming students with their transition to Duke and to guide people who are looking to pursue an MBA in Fuqua with their application process.

We are anxiously preparing for this year’s upcoming class. As current students we know about the many challenges you might encounter. One of our priorities is to guide you as much as possible and make your transition to Durham smoother. In order to achieve this goal, we prepared a Q&A document found on this Website that includes important information based on our experience.

In addition to the Q&A document, our main activities for this year are:

  • Prepare a Latin American data base for alumni, upcoming students and educational centers, among others
  • Organize an informational gathering with new Latin American students
  • Increase Fuqua’s awareness in Latin America by coordinating with Educational Centers in Latin America as well as with Fuqua Admissions
  • Contact and help prospective students with the application process

If you are planning to obtain an MBA degree next year, we encourage you to apply to Fuqua. As part of LASA, you will become a member of one of the largest clubs in the program. Fuqua has  excellent academic preparation and offers a great diversity experience. The international students compose about 30%-40% of the program and are an important part of your education. We are well recognized for our team environment, “Team Fuqua”, which will be an essential tool for your future success in today’s competitive market. Aside from academics, the Latin American culture is strongly felt through LASA and other clubs. We organize reunions with “asados” and other popular dishes from our countries, among others. You may refer to LASA’s Social Council for a list of social activities as well as to the rest of LASA Councils found in this Website.

If you are planning to attend Fuqua next year or would like to contact LASA Admissions Council for additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us:

Testimonials:

"Team Fuqua was one of the main reasons I picked Duke for my MBA. Although I had high expectations, I needed to be here and experience the life in Durham and Fuqua to understand what Team Fuqua really means. It is a collaborative environment that strives for excellence and accountability, a particular mix I haven’t found elsewhere. This is a student run school and it is up to us to take the opportunity to enhance our experience and that of our classmates. I got to be part of LASA and Fuqua on Board, both programs allowed to get involved in the Fuqua Community and the Durham Community. All the above have made me feel at home since the first day I got into town."

"I visited Fuqua before applying and I loved the place, the people and the culture. Now I feel proud that I made the best decision in coming here. First, I have found the most valuable people. It is very difficult to explain but once you are here you can feel the Team Fuqua environment all over the place: An environment where people are always willing to help and a unique atmosphere where it is incredible easy to make a lot of friends. Secondly, I became even more interested when I knew about the great opportunities that Fuqua had in entrepreneurship and venture capital. Fuqua has given me the opportunity to learn a lot about entrepreneurship by participating in several entrepreneur competitions, including the Duke Start-up Challenge. I also had the chance to do a mentored study with Duke’s Small Business and Technology Development Center, where I mentored other start-ups. Finally, my wife and I were very interested in living in an adventurous place as Durham, where we could do a lot of outdoor activities. So far, we have done primitive camping, rafting, skiing, hiking, and many other open air activities. We just love our life at Duke! "
